The effect of squinting on the lens of the eye may well be true while
there is still some flexibility in the lens in you younger folk.
However, the pinhole effect is also true. Try curling your index finger
up tight until there is just a tiny, roundish hole and peer through it.
As a lifelong myop, I have used this technique to read something distant
like a sign on rare occasions when without glasses/contacts.
