Richard,
You are not just buying a camera. You are buying access to a system.
Believe me, you will want some sort of image stability system at least
on one lens even if you do not think so now. That is an argument
against the small guys who do not have the resources to profitably
build up the kinds of systems supported by pro budgets spent on Canon
or Nikon. But that may not be important to you.
Saying that a major player in the camera/lens game does not understand
or design for bokeh is delusion. I am sorry. No insult is intended. I
don't think anyone is negative about Nikon lens quality or bokeh.
However their prices are dear compared to Canon and the selection is
not as large.
You might take a look at the Canon forums at dpreview though. It is
interesting to put the word "focus" or "focus problem" in the search
engine and see what comes up. Lots of complaints about the cameras that
is almost nonexistent on the Nikon forums or Olympus forum. There is a
pretty strong thread there that says it is not the cameras, but the
lenses themselves because the same camera will front focus with one
lens and back focus with another lens.
