The newest hardware diagram I have for the 50/1.4 is dated 1982 and it
identifies that lens as a type 5. That means there are at least 5 different
types of 50/1.4's with some non-interchangeable parts. Whether or not there
was a change in optical formulation between all the types isn't clear though.
There are definitely at least three optical formualations and they are
designed C (coated), MC (multi-coated), and NMC (new multi-coated). There may
also have been more versions introduced after 1982.
