I believe I brought up this idea that ebay prices of OM gear being slightly
down about 5 or so months ago. We couldn't agree on any cause or even if it was
anything more than a temporary 'blip'. Someone else mentioned it also this
past January, and the consensus seemed to be that it was an after- Christmas
effect, when people weren't spending.
I think we are seeing a 'general' devauation of manual-focus items due mainly
to the mass move to digital. Believe me, the move is in progress for 'the
masses'. Look at how many of us here on the list are either making the move
now,
or considering it for the not too distant future. Even I am surprised that so
many here are coming to grips with the possibility. After all, you'd kind of
expect people on lists like this one, a manual-focus centered system to be
among the last to consider a move like that. I know many are considering
digital
for only 'certain' situations and want to use both digital and the OM system
side-by-side, but what about in say, two years, when the the E-3 or 4, or Nikon
or Canon 75X is introduced, then I think digital will have progressed to the
point where it will be harder and harder for everyone to justify their large
OM collections and they'll be offered on ebay.
I think as digital progresses, the price of manual focus "old" gear will
plummet. There'll be plenty available, much much more than demand, and prices
will
have to drop. Forget about it being considered "rare".
