What will happen eventually if you do not use it regularly is that you
_will_ notice a difference and that difference will not likely be
satisfying. For myself, I use hoods on moonless foggy nights in the street,
beneath the limbs of large shade trees, anywhere at anytime even pointing
directly away from the sun and like that. But then I also habitually have
some sort of filter installed in front of my lens unless it's mounted
securely on a tripod for a shot I happen to view in an especially anal way,
so what could I know about quality? To each his own, always. (BTW, hoods if
stiff in nature can act as your first line of defense with re to lens
front-element damage, and if not _too_ stiff probably guard to a degree
against frontal shock damage to the body as well.)
I've a number of threaded 49mm hoods specified for 50mm lenses around the
house, not sure if any of them is from Olympus (I believe my hard rubber
one might be). Still, they all work within my experience equally well on
the Zuiko 50mm f/1.8. f/1.4 and f/1.2 lenses. And why shouldn't they?
