In that sort of situation, when the shooting is hot and heavy,
just leave the thing at the wide-angle setting, where it'll give
you about the same protection as the standard hood would. Or go
sans filter, which is what I do 90 percent of the time.

Yep. They've available in 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72 and 77mm
sizes. With this lens, I use 72mm filters when the need arises,
ergo the 72mm hood.
