Thanks Joe. When you use a 2x teleconverter it not only doubles your focal
length, it also doubles your aperture. So the 300/4.5 becomes a 600/9. If You
stop the lens down to, say, f11 (as marked on the lens) you're shooting at f22
with the converter. Depth of field with the 300/4.5 set at a marked f11, with
the 2x converter, is the same as any other 600mm lens shot at f22.
