After looking at all the popular choices, I've settled on using IMatch
(http://www.photools.com). You can download a 30 day trial version of
the software free off their web site. The main reasons I picked it are
that it's extremely extensible via a scripting engine (lots of free scripts
available), and it supports importing/exporting the database via XML. I
decided that if I'm going to spend 100's of hours setting up a database,
the last thing I want is to be locked into a single vendor's solution.
XML gives you the ability to move the database to another solution if
needed. IMatch also has the best IPTC/EXIF (embedded image metadata,
eg. date, time, shutter speed, etc) support.

It's better than Adobe's because it's not Adobe :-)
