With all due respect, Winsor, you're being a bit disingenuous
here...Nikon and Canon have both had their DSLRs out for, what,
three-four years or more now. And there weren't any special lenses
released or designed for the cameras. NOW they're starting to produce
some "digital" lenses, a tiny handful on the "pro" end designed to deal
with the wide angle issue, but mostly crappy cheap lenses being paired
with the cheap DSLR bodies, like the Digital Rebel. The fact that Nikon
and Canon are now making an effort in the digital lens area is hardly
comparable with Olympus designing the entire system from the ground up,
whatever you do or don't think of the system, and whether or not you buy
what they say about the lens design.

Not exactly. What Canon has done is produce digital cameras that take
the older lenses and then started a lens redesign process to optimize
some of them for digital. Nikon has done the same thing and issued
special DX lenses specifically for their digital format as well. So
both companies created digital systems that allowed their customers to
transition with optimum results from most of their lenses and maybe
only the need to replace their wide angle lens. Pentax is emulating
this logical and customer friendly process.
