If the column has a thread, its probably a 1/4-20 like most tripods use to
attach the head (at least in the US, I think the European standard is
3/8-16). Perhaps you can find an eyehook with a 1/4-20 thread. This would be
made to use with a pair of nuts to hold through a hole and provide a hook. I
suppose it would look like a "?" with a 1/4-20 thread at the non-curved end.
You might want to use a 1/4-20 hex nut as a 'jam-nut' to hold it secure in
the bottom end of the column.
