Right. Daniel, I wonder if they put the film processor back into production
without confirming their process with a "control
strip", read on a densitometer, and interpreted with care and experience.
If a poorly trained "helper" lifted a bleach rack across the developer section,
just a few drops of bleach will have a catastropic
effect on the process.
It contaminates the developer.
If the developer is contaminated, no amount of balancing will salvage the
shoot. Period. The fix is to dump the developer, ALL of
it. Flush the system, change the filters, mix fresh developer, wait for it to
come up to 100 degrees F, test it, *THEN* start
running again.
It sounds like you don't feel comfortable with that "new" lab anyway so I guess
it's good that you didn't learn this lesson on
someone's wedding day.
For your penance, Daniel, say 3 Hail Mary's and make regular donations to a
better lab. Go forth and ecomomize no more.
All the best,
Jim
PS, that seems to be a major theme this week.
