You don't need to turn off the AF, many C*non lenses has "Real Time Manual
Focusing" function, just focus, hold the release button and fine tune the
focus with your hand then release the shutter.

No, it's not unusual. You can do this with C*n*n by autofocussing, then
turning off the AF switch on the lens, and tweaking manually. Moreover, Oly
digicams have been notable for how highly customizable they are.
