The Democrats were trying very hard to manipulate the election system when
the Supreme Court stopped it. It's hard to know how much the Republicans had
manipulated it earlier. Just because something is written does not make it
true......and much BS has been written on this subject. /jim

In Oz this would have voided the election and required a general
revote - no argument - as soon as it hit the appropriate court. It's
happened and it shifted the result of a close state election, causing
a change of government (27 soldiers overseas demonstrated that they
had been inadvertently disenfranchised in a marginal seat in a tight
election).
Regardless of loyalties, the only way to avoid this whole mess is to
place the conduct of federal elections under the power of an
independent federal body (an Electoral Commission) with a clear set
of rules. The world's leading democracy (in some senses) should also
demonstrate the best and fairest procedures.
