The switch designs vary over the period of manufactur. The micro-switch 
style can't be cleaned this way, but then they seldom fail.
There is obviously an intermittant connection in the meter circuit. Two 
common causes are topics O15 and O18 on the repair FAQ on R. Lee Hawkins 
great site

Perhaps a Canadian member will suggest a repair shop there. Otherwise, 
check out zuiko.com and Olyfix.com, 2 first rate Oly repairers in the US.
