But it is probably built like a 300/2.8 intended for a 35mm SLR. I can't see why it would be any harder to build a 300/2.8 that fits on an E1 rather than an OM. It doesn't even have to cover a 35mm frame. The light rays from a 300mm lens should be pretty close to perpendicular to the image plane without doing anything special.
