If you do decide to buy a replacement battery, Sonnenschein the original oem
battery vendor, makes
an identical sized battery but without the rib on one side. This has a higher
Ah capacity than the
original battery and is generally cheaper (not being from Metz). You can easily
add the rib by
glueing a small piece of plastic strip (use pipe solvent adhesive)on the
correct side. The rib's
function is to ensure that you don't put the the battery in the wrong way round
which likely would
destroy the electronics or blow the fusible link. A number of enterprising
people sell these
batteries new on ebay but add a red card strip on one side instead of the rib,
but this is less
reliable for forgetful users.
