Thanks Mike. That was sad, but are they talking about a variable pitch
propellor? The first mention of "gear problems" led me to think of
undercarriage, but then the pilot's mention of being "stuck in first
gear" implied fine pitch on the prop.
That was a lovely looking aircraft; what a dreadful waste to lose it ...

The Hughes H 1 B was a very significant plane in the annals of
aviation History and this replica had only been flying about a year.
My deepest sympathies go to James Wright's family. For more details

I am very grateful to have had the chance to see this plane at Oshkosh
last week. I wonder what effect this will have on the various groups
building replicas of significant aircraft from the past.
