Ok, Zuikoids, it's time to cut down on the corn and soybeans and
seek out the highs and highers of Colorado.
This week we're packing the Grand Zuiko Cherokee and heading for
points west. We'll be spending this coming weekend and the
entire next week in Colorado looking for "low-range" territory.
Tent is packed, sleeping pads tested, new water containers
bought and the 4wd system fully tested. All we have to do is
pack the Thule "coffin" and load the back. After all these
years, we're getting a bit more efficient at the process.
Now for the serious stuff:
One of my brothers (in the know) has supplied me with several
good spots in the south-central region of Colorado to point the
Goodyear Wranglers--trails that a whimpy non-lockered,
non-lifted JGC (new style) can go without risking too much
sheet-metal damage. We're also looking at the 4-corners region.
Specifically, though, I am looking for two or three locations
which are reachable without too much fear that might have a nice
little alpine lake and good surrounding scenics which we could
"free-camp" near. We dispise "refugee camp" state and national
parks campgrounds. Why pay $18 to be crammed between two
motorhomes with ever-running air-conditioners and generators or
next to bubba-Jones and his 13 screaming kids?
Give me places where I can 4-wheel to and day-hike around.
Places where my wife and 13 screaming kids (2) can be content.
And, PLEASE, give me places suitable for the entourage of Zuikos
and 4x5 equipment that will be toted along.
Now, I've just got to figure out where to mount the recovery
hooks on the JGC.
