You've looked at Gary's lens test site
<http://members.aol.com/olympusom/lenstests/default.htm> ? That gives
very good data there about all the 35-70 versions that you can compare
to each otherand the many other lenses he tested.
The 35-70/3.5-4.5 is quite a good lens from a simple performance
standpoint, possibly only second to the f3.6 version. It also has 2
special characteristics. First, it is amazingly small. This is a big
plus for me, making it a favorite 'walking around' lens when not
seriously taking pics. However, some people with big hands and/or thick
fingers find it difficult to use. Second, it has a useful close focus
capability, nothing fancy at 1:5.7, but better than the other good
35-70s, equal to the 35mm primes and a bit better than the 50mm primes.
Gary also has a lot of price info from the 'Bay on his site. Click on
the blue underlined lens name. Looks from his info like the range is
pretty broad, about $100-150, depending on condition. I seem to have
collected several of them on bodies and would be happy to sell the
extras. Contact me off list for details if interested.

Anyway, now I'm pondering over buying a 35-70 3.5/4.5 at what seems like
a good price. I wonder if any owners of this lens would kindly comment
on how good it is (relative to other similar Zuiko's) and how much one
in decent condition might cost please?
