The 40/2 is also 49 mm, but this is a more understandable anomaly, since
it was originally intended to be cute/light/cheap/small, rather than
part of the "professional" line.

Actually, the 85/2 also takes 49mm filters....which, if I recall
correctly, makes it the only two /2 lenses with 49mm filter?
I guess that the design strategy was "49mm, if at all possible,
otherwise 55"...:)
