What version are you using? Photoshop has been able to do batch conversions
since at least version 5.5.
The Mac version can even do complex scripting via AppleScript.
First, make an "Action" to "Save For Web..." your image. pick the settings you
want, and save it anywhere. You can even put fitting to a standard size,
sharpening, and watermarking (for example) in the action if you like.
Next, do "File --> Automate --> Batch..." and you'll get a dialog that allows
you to select an action, input folder, and output folder. Press "Okay" and sit
back and let it convert!
It does go through opening and displaying every image, however, so it is a bit
slow. GraphicConverter (Mac shareware) performs such conversions considerably
faster, although with less flexibility.)
