[OM] Need recommendations for a good jpg batch conversion software

I use Irfanview, which is ok, but the algorithm sucks, I get a lot of 
artifacts compared to Photoshop.  But photoshop doesn't do batch 
conversions (and no, I'm not about to do 1000+ pics by hand!) and so I 
need some recommendations for a free program that will do batch 
conversions, but has a decent algorithm..
