Though according to http://www.anstendig.org/WhyNoCameraCanFocus.html all
focussing methods are horribly broken. (except for, weirdly, the one that
they invented. Peculiar coincidence, that..)

Wonderful. A conspiracy theory! Even mentions JFK's assassination.
When I was on the N*kon list, a member mentioned that he routinely over-
(or was it under-?) focused with his FE2 because he claimed the camera
wasn't designed to record exactly the focus one sees through the mirror. I
can't imagine Nikon designed it this way but that he found a way to improve
his results, unpredictable as it may sound. But just because I'm not
paranoid doesn't mean it ain't so.
