It will likely help some. If you are looking for the lovely soft light
of pro portraits, you are fighting simple geometry. A small light source
will create shadows that a large source will not. Diffused or not, a T32
is a 1x2.5 in. source. Point it straight up and bounce it off a 45 deg.
reflector and you get a larger source, how large depends on size and
distance of the reflector. Point it back into a reflective umbrella and
the source becomes very large., but not very bright. There have been
lots of posts about soft boxes, foam core or similar materials cut to
fit on a T32, etc. You might also check the web, including John Lind's
site. There is a lot of info out there on the subject. It's all well
known and proved techniques.
