The tripod mount socket on an OM-4 is just over 6mm and that on a winder
2 just under 5mm. My Bogen mounting plates use a system with a threaded
collar on the mounting screw for tightening so they will tighten with
any socket depth. My Velbon head doesn't bottom in the Winder 2. If you
use a spacer and want to take any vertical shots, use something other
than a metal washer, that doesn't have enough friction to hold the
camera at any reasonable tightness.

I just received a Winder 2 via eBay. The 1/4-20" socket bottoms out on the
mounting plates for both my Gitzo and Bogen tripods. Is that unusual?
