My feelings exactly. Plus you've got that chunk of iron hanging on every
body which gets in the way when you don't use a tripod so you take it
off...put it on....take it off...can't find it...

If you get a good one, it is not iron. It is light alloy. It is
strong and reinforces the base plate, a weakness on OMs. It is not
heavy and it is several times as fast as a tripod screw.
