Albert, I haven't used that many tripods but I do like my Manfrotto
Proball 308 head, on a "pro" i.e. beat up :>) garage sale Gitzo Safari
Studex, this ball head is a good compromise, fairly sturdy but not too
heavy. And not expensive. I tried the model with the quick release
plates but exchanged it for the basic screw on model. I just don't
understand why people think those clunky plates are any easier to use
than just screwing the camera on with a few flicks of your finger.
Beside they are ... well... cluncky. By the way that Gitzo of mine is
too heavy to pack very far.
