Hi, Peter.
Welcome back. I have no direct experience with your lens choice,
because I have found that my 35-80 takes care of most of my long
distance needs when traveling. I usually do have either the 135/2.8 or
200/4 with me and a 2X depending on my needs. I am happy with the
results. I don't mind the 200/4, but I have a late one, bought new.
Whether that makes any difference or I am not very critical, I don't
know. I suspect that my higher number of soft shots with the 200/4,
especially with multiplier, are more related to my laxness in using a
tripod.
I was impressed when Gary Reese in a rare submission to the list
indicated that he had sold his 200/4 because he found that he liked the
80-200/4 better because it was sharper and more flexible.
