Nice pic, Dave.
The 35-70/3.5-4.5 is certainly a great walking around lens. It is so
much smaller, less than half the weight and less obtrusive than the
f3.6, but the real clincher is the close focus ability. The f3.6 & f4
only go to 1:20, while the 3.5-4.5 goes to 1:6, not macro, but close
enough for most casual use.
