There is no practical way to put a tripod collar on a 180/2.8
Zuiko, so the solution is to get the 80-200/2.8 Tamron, which does
have a one. The Tamron is a tad heavier (3 lb. 4 oz. with hood
AND tripod mount vs. 1 lb. 8 oz. with hood and NO tripod mount for
the Zuiko) and is a smidgen longer (7 in. vs. 5 in. at infinity
focus). But since the goal apparently is to mount the thing on a
tripod, weight and size shouldn't matter much.
The 180/2.8 Zuiko has always been one of my favorites, so it is
with considerable reluctance that I have to say that the Tamron is
quite possibly the better lens. And if you are of the bokeh hokeh
cult, since the Tamron has a nine-blade diaphragm, it should be
noted that it produces exceptionally smooth out-of-focus
backgrounds. Then there's that 80 to 200mm thing.
And, no, mine's not for sale.
