To mis-quote the Michigan state motto*, if you seek a pleasant anarchy, look
around you!
The Internet is one of the best examples of a "functional anarchy" to date. It
is not without its problems, but it is proof of concept.
I'm sure all the monarchs of the 18th century thought the notion of democracy
ridiculous, too.
While the notion of "no military" might seem strange, I'd submit that today's
norm of military-based nation-state is equally strange, and the cause of most
of the world's problems today.
Certainly, we couldn't all simply drop our weapons tomorrow, but wouldn't
"earth as a de-militarized zone" be a nice long-term goal to work towards?
Rather than boycotting the international convention on land mines? Rather than
refusing to ratify treaties (universally accepted by the rest of the world)
that hold nations criminally accountable for military action? Rather than
protecting and subsidizing the armaments industry?
* "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you."
