Have you tried the vivitar 2x macro focusing with the 90? I'm expecting my
'new' 90 in the post any day now. It comes with the extension tube but I
like the idea of using the 2x with it.

I prefer to use the Tamron 2x flat field multiplier, which gives a 180/5
that focuses down to 1:1. Much more working distance for those real
close-ups.
