If it's any consolation I was "let  go" about 5 years ago (although in my case 
it "optional" although I'm not sure what's I'd have ended up doing if I'd said 
"no").
 
Turns out it was the best move I could have made..... took a couple of months 
off to re-introduce myself to my family, then a job came up (wasn't exactly 
what I wanted) but this led to to an introduction to my current company that 
eventually offered my a job that is everything(-ish) I wanted.  Just took a bit 
of patience to come together.
 
So, get to be with your family, and I hope everything works out.
