I grew up in a little central Texas town that had two rivers which ran
through it. Much of my youth was spent on a river bank with a fishing pole
in my hand. I'd sometimes fish for catfish which are bottom feeders. Any
that have watched my ebay action know I do a little bottom feeding myself
from time to time. The Tamron 180mm f2.5 was $285, the 300mm f2.8 with
teleconverter was $820 and truly LN and the prize of the bunch was the 400mm
f4 at about $570 after figuring in the CLA I had done after I bought it. It
was in nice condition other than for the insect which had somehow worked
itself inside the lens, died and the partially fallen apart. So that is a
little under $1700 for the three, not a Fang, but not bad either. I agree
the 300 & 400 together would be a real pain to carry unless it was a short
distance to a blind of staging area. The 180mm has been glued on the front
of one of my OM 2S bodies for several weeks now and I have been tempted by
the 80-200mm f2.8. When I find one at the right price, I'll probably have to
make room for it in the stash closet. Bill Barber
