Is the spring broken (because you *can* get the counter to return) or
is the little catch inside the camera back sticking? It is located
just above the sprocket spool (can't think of another name), left of
the take-up spool in the foam groove. It is a small steel jobber
about 2mm square. It springs out when the camera is opened and
allows the counter to zero.

The return spring for the film counter on my OM1 has broken.
If I remember I can shake the body to get the counter back to
0 when the back is open, but not very practical.
