What about using NiMH batteries? Do silver oxides last longer?
To my knowledge NiMH cells do not exist in the very small size of
303/357/MS76/SR44 button cells designed for comparatively low current
drain in use. Furthermore, NiMH cells do not have much of a shelf
life. They inherently self discharge over several months. Long shelf
life is important for cells that are expected to last a long time,
even in use.
The real advantage of NiMH cells is ability to recharge them many,
many times. They are applicable to powering digital cameras,
camcorders and flash units that consume a lot of power quickly with
periods of very high current demands. The current demand of an OM
body for its shutter and meter is miniscule compared to that of
current, heavily motorized wonder-bricks/P&S's (especially with
built-in flash), digitals, camcorders and external flash units.

Thanks, John. You've 'found me out.' I'm an Oly digicam owner, and the
mantra I've always heard is 'NiMH! NiMH! NiMH!' A couple of lifetimes
ago, though, I was an Oly SLR owner (with a Canon SLR thrown in there
somewhere, too).
