Joe,
I would go with the light box/loupe approach. Colour balanced tube and
enough evenly lit space to compare several bracketed shots side-by-side!
My only problem has been getting a decent loupe. Any affordable ones that
I've tried have been disappointing for distortion or resolution.
I now use a Zuiko 50/1.8 with a rubber lens hood that just rests the lens at
the right focus height above the slide. I'd imagine 1.4 or 1.2 models would
be even better. It's possibly not so good for glasses wearers or sharing
with others, but perfect for critical evaluation.
For non critical quick looks, I get out a little 'hold up to the light'
viewer - 3Euros!
