I recently bought a Gepe viewer for 35mm slides, for about US $40 new, the
model with a glass lens. It was a failure. There was a layer of hazy white
material on the back of the lens, there were distracting reflections
everywhere, and the case was glued together, so I couldn't get it apart to
clean the lens and paint the inside of the housing flat black, or add some
baffles. I took the viewer back to the camera store. The sales staff tried
all the other viewers costing $40 or more, and all had one obvious and
crippling design problem or another. I gave up and got my money back.
So, my question is this: Who makes (new or used) good slide 35mm viewers?
What about 6x6? What makes and models should I look for, and what should I
avoid? (I don't want to use a slide projector for taking quick looks.)
