Well, I don't know about the other examples quoted, but I *do* know that, after
the Canadian and U.S. militaries finished building the Alaska Highway during
WWII, literally thousands of heavy vehicles were simply left by the side of the
road to slowly rust away. You can still see these graveyards if you travel the
Alaska Highway. Kinda spooky, actually.
