CLA - or maybe lock it in a small room with one of those ozone machines that
clean the air. I don't know whether ozone might affect the lens coatings
though - and the ozone machine might cost more than a good lens ;)
Understand your dilemma though. I am an ex-smoker, and I do not like my
things reeking of tobacco smoke residue. Now pipe smoke isn't so bad. Maybe
I'll take that one up someday.
Cheers,
Lee

Subject: [OM] smokey smell?
Date: Mon, 07 Oct 2002 22:27:02 +0200
I have a strange question.
I recently bought a lens... Apparently the seller was a heavy smoker. Not to
offend the smokers on the list, but this lens really stinks. It smells like
it was in a smokey car or room for years, however the glass is very clear
luckily (it was protected by a UV filter). I can smell it even entering the
room. Anybody knows what to do about this? Take it appart and rince in
lukewarm water? Deodorant? Alka Selzer or alikes?
Anybody who can help me?
Iwert.
