As a retired, but not repentant, smoker, I have endured years of gripes
from my non-smoking wife. Now that I've been off that particular weed
(tobacco) for several years, I can finally detect the so-called stench of
the evil smoker. I don't find it all that offensive, but others of more
delicate sensibilities apparently do.
Anyway, my wife collects old cookbooks, has a few hundred of these things.
When one arrives from a xBay auction that has spent years in the home of a
smoker, it's obvious, even to me. But a few days in the rarified, pristine
air of non-smokers and the smell dissipates.
So, just give the thing a few days of air and see if it still offends your
olfaction. If it does, and if it's a good lens, hopefully a Zuiko, you can
send it to someone who won't find its aroma offensive. Like me.
