Galen Rowell's last column in Outdoor Photography currently on the
newstand stresses the need to test your equipment to see what it will
do and where its limitations. He talks a lot about how teleadaptors
degrade even very good zooms when they work fine with single focal
lengths. One point I liked was his reporting of his experiences with
running photography seminars saying that the retired school teachers
with manual equipment got consistently better exposed and sharper
results that younger participants with the latest pro auto equipment.
