CH and others have said they're disappointed in the (not so) little
Olydak. Me too. 5 MP!? Well, not exactly a revolution since it's
already old news. So, what could Oly do to catch your attention and
sell you this camera?
How about a promise that you can keep the same camera and lenses for a
long, long time. As technology moves forward you can send your camera in
and have your sensor replaced with the latest 8, 10, 12 megapixel wonder
as they become available. With a CMOS sensor (did you note that they
hedged on whether it was CCD?) you can integrate the processor and
memory. If you have a compact flash slot you can just keep moving up
the line for additional storage. So, properly designed, we oughtt to be
able to have near "snap-in" technology revival.
Doesn't it sound great!! And too good to be true. Too bad they're
dependent on Kodak for fundamental technology. Kodak has just
demonstrated with their 14 Megapixel sensor that they're not giving the
competition first crack at their best technology. Sigh.
