Having spent many years in San Diego, our family usually attended the airshow at Marimar NAS (before the Navy moved up to Nellis). Many of you may remember an occasional "BOOM" that the Navy always denied as coming from their planes? Well, a F14 was approaching for a high speed pass. Got my trusty OM-1 with the 400 MM ready to follow it as it crossed in front of me when I noticed a bit of condensation on it's nose. I have this picture of that bird popping through the sound barrier just as it crossed over RT15 at about 500 feet. I'll bet that the poor drivers on the freeway below had to change their silk underware-LOL Another "fond memory" is from the Marines in their FA-18 south of the training base (29 Palms?). I suspect that the pilots loved coming up behind hikers and dumping fuel into the engine exhaust just as they went over your head, and you do not hear a FA-18 coming up behind you!
