I've had the Scan Dual II since shortly after it came out (over a year
ago now, and of course it was $400 then), and have been very happy with
it. Combined with a Epson Stylus Photo 820, I can make very nice
8.5x11" prints. I suppose ICE would be nice, but I have sufficiently
few slides to scan that cloning the dust out in Photoshop isn't
terribly painful for me. I would HIGHLY recommend checking out
VueScan, especially if you run Mac OS X. At $40, you will still come
in under your $400 limit. Enjoy your scanner, and congrats on the
album cover!

I did some research and found that Minolta now has a $299 film scanner
called the Dimage Scan Dual II. I guess "Dimage" is a combination of
'digital' and 'image'. I bought it right here in town. No one rents
film
scanners in my medium sized American city, metro Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
