Nor can I. I can't imagine wearing poly clothes next to my skin here in
the cool PacNW let alone in the tropics. The stuff makes me break out in
an itchy rash. And those that say wearing cotton clothing is sure death
by hypothermia are full of it. That said I wear plenty of polar feece
etc. on top of the cotton and change out of cotton if it gets wet.

All synthetics are not the same. Polypropylene which was the most
common knit underwear fiber was famous for its itchy properties.
Polyethylene as exemplified by Patagonia's Capilene brand is very
soft and comfortable. Not only is there a difference between the
polymers, there are differences in the way it is produced. There are
big differences among ballistic cloth nylon, cordura, rip stops, and
brushed versions like Supplex. There is large variability in the
treatments that enhance softness, wickability, and odor prevention
for the underwear variants.
