Yes, wait until you are done with the roll of film. Taking off the motor
drive cap alone can fog the film, given the right conditions. (mainly
bright light, shining in the hole for an extended amount of time, and
high speed film)

P.S. But what about the OM-10, G, etc., which don't have the motor drive
cover? They have extra light baffles in that area.

Yes, you can cut off the 'ears' and release it if nothing else works, or
cut/chip away the glue, if that's the situation.
So this looks like the solution I'll try once I look into getting the proper
screwdriver for the job. One last question: I already have a roll of film
in there. Will removing the base plate expose the film to light? Should I
wait until there's no film in the camera? (I know this sounds like a
no-brainer, but ever since I rediscovered this problem, it's really been
bothering me! =)
