Some of the little 5-6 screwdriver sets in plastic boxes sold by Radio
Shack and others have cross point drivers. The one they call Crosspoint
#0 is perfect for most Oly screws.
Fortunately, if your MD cover is really messed up, wonderful replica
versions (some say better than the originals) are available from Beljan
Mfg. in regular *Bay dutch auctions. They were completely unavailable
for years.

Yes, cross-point screws are not the same as phillips screws. You may be
able to remove a cross-point screw with a phillips driver, but you run the
risk of damaging the screw. There are two key differences between a
cross-point driver and a phillips driver. A cross point has a flat bottom
whereas a phillips ends in a point. In addition, the pitch of the blades
are somewhat different between the two. Sometimes you can get away with
grinding away the tip of a phillips driver to make it fit better. It'll
probably work for 990f cross-point screws, but it'll fail at the worst
time, when the screw is really tight. That's when the head gets stripped,
then you're really screwed (pun intended :-).
