I was told that this originated many years ago at a PMA or some such "meet",
when some tech-reps asked Mr. Maitani to "sign" their OM-2's by scratching his
name into the back covers. This he willingly did. One was presented to me in
gratitude by one of these early "pioneers".
Some markting wiz caught wind of it and presto, plates were manufactured to be
sold or distributed as "favors" and "gimmes".
