Well, obviously, the 80-200 f2.8 is the perfect tool. I have and use a
100/2.8 and 135/3.5. So, I'll confine my remarks to making pictures instead
of packing a bag.
Since you have a pass, USE IT! By that I mean that you'll have the ability
to move about and that's a very powerful tool that I rarely have. For
example, moving about to isolate a singer from an out-of-focus ladder at the
back of the stage is always smart. Sometimes it's hard to avoid the
guitar-sticking-out-of-the singer's-back syndrome.
As the sun fell at an outdoor festival, there was one moment when the
audience was a deep shade of blue and the stage lights were only +1 stop. I
took 6 frames as an overlapping panorama. The other fans really loved it
'cause no one really gets the band AND the audience in one frame.
I usually try to get audience reactions but they have to be very close to
the stage as they'll only be lit by light reflected into their faces from
the stage.
Last week, I shot Fuji 1600 and had it pushed 2 stops. I basically had no
meter and shot everything at 1/60th at f/3.5 with the 135. No shake but
even with the push, many of the frames were very dim.
Please don't use flash. It bugs everyone. My 2 cents.
